One thing that might be helpful - Robert Supnik's "simh" simulator now has a
very workable VAX - it runs the VMS hobbyist kit quite respectably on my dual
PIII/750.

I'm part way through writing a DEQNA "device" for this emulator with the
intention of networking (and possibly clustering) simh virtual machines at some
point :)
