Hi

New release 0.0.42 at
ftp.nvg.ntnu.no:/pub/vms/freevms (freevms-0_0_42.tgz)

news:

Have discovered that something has broken uml going
many releases back. (Must be some system change/update since 41?)
(Something segfaults after init is loaded)

Have started work on the I/O system to make it VMS driverish with QIO.
A config option CONFIG_IO_VMS can be used both for uml and i386,
but only for blockdevices.
Usable blockdevices on i386 is IDE only (only one disk so far).
(Booted only on bochs and may not work with all fs blocksizes).
It leaks lots of memory, so configure lots (64M ok). Boot with init=/bin/sh.
It is read-only.

I/O plans:
A lot of driver support might be cut/broke.
Continue with network drivers, NE2000 might then be the only card supported.
Then maybe character drivers, like keyboard/console. Maybe floppy.
That leaves us with IDE, floppy, NE2000, keyboard, video.
Intentionally few, because that is what bochs supports, and working
on as few drivers as possible might be easier.

Regards,
Roar Thronæs
