Exactly... I've got no kernel knowledge or very little... As for the books, I think I could at least find a Linux book. If I can find any VMS kernel book I could surely buy it as well. (and read it)

yes, well more specifically I've got most experiences with MASM and TASM compilers, but any assembler will look fine ;-) As for the x86, z80 and a little sparc asm would be here as well...

Not really... I could just tell you what a spinlock is, but for more information I'd have to do some reading first.
