I did look at the IBM stuff before I began and considered modifying it,
but the data structures, clustring etc were too different and I thought it
would be cheaper writing from scratch than modifying.
I am not sure of the status of Lustre last time I looked at it, but
the current stuff seems to have code worth looking at.
