A CVS tree is a tree which contains all files of a project. Some
contributers can use this tree without deleting any datas. With a ftp
tree, you cannot have versions numbers, but with a CVS, you can. It is
not the only difference... You can update a local tree without
downloading the entire sources.
All informations are in man cvs (or info cvs).
Regards,
JKB
PS : is it possible to have a cvsweb interface with the CVS tree ?
