    I was just thinking of the various libraries currently under
construction to emulate their "real" VMS counterparts. Granted,
my last detailed experience in maintaining a VMS system was
on version 5.4-3, but I recall there being a BAS$ library that
many other system and application programs linked into.

    Is this library still in use in the later versions of VMS? Best,
