There is probably something wrong with 2.4.15, too.

In the beginning, I assume the changes will not be so large that they can
not be patched on to later kernels?

And structure? Where do we put the freevms directory?
/usr/src/freevms, so we get to keep things in an independent directory,
and try to minimalize the changes in /usr/src/linux?
Makefiles, unistd.h and a lot of files might have to be changed even then.
